by Neil Simon
Back in those distant days before the internet, cable television, or cell phones, two young people fell in love… Meet newlyweds Corie and Paul Bratter. Paul is a strait-laced attorney. Corie is spontaneous free spirit. They’re in love. After a blissful honeymoon at The Plaza hotel they must face reality and set up housekeeping in a minuscule fifth-floor studio in a Manhattan brownstone with no elevator. In addition to adjusting to married life, they must contend with oddball neighbors, a well-meaning mother and a hole in their skylight. Neil Simon’s play, written in 1963 and inspired by the early days of his marriage at the time, was his first major hit and ran for 1,530 performances on Broadway.
